Around our hotel you can find the beautiful work of local artist, Mridula Basi.
"I was born and brought up in India in early 70s, studied painting and
fine arts at College of Art, Delhi and settled in Scotland in mid 90s;
where I still live. My creative practice is mostly based between my
travel to India, United Kingdom, mainland Europe and the Scottish
countryside where I have my studio and home.
My art is reflective of my personal connection with the subject. To be
able celebrate the freedom to create art is just as humbling in the end
as the perseverance and fight the at easel, between the human
capacity and the artistic idea.
I work with traditional and organic materials, using studio techniques
that aim for ‘zero plastic’ methods.
To be able to fearlessly tell a story in varied styles of visual art, such
that it frees the spectator to create a narrative of their perception of it is
what I aspire for in my creative process.
This 2019 exhibition at Torrs Warren Country House is a liberally
curated collection of sketches, illustrations and paintings from my
portfolio of works since 2001.
From my studio to the walls of Torrs Warren Country House in a very
unique part of Scotland, these works have been selected from
conversations inspired by the various corners of these environs. As
they hang on the walls here, these works are for the pleasure, intrigue
and critique of all who wish to spend some time looking at them. Art is
a journey of thoughts and expressions. As a painter it was a unique
and rewarding experience to walk through my own work along with
Paul and his team. Torrs Warren team have all got together in picking
these pieces for our experience. That is what makes this exhibition
Although a realist at heart, an impressionist in
the instant, my work is the interweaving of
realism and abstraction in form and colour.
Feel free to critique, question and appreciate.
Most importantly have an interesting stay.
